Veterans Day—Honor Their Service Through Heroes Linked
Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of the Great War (subsequently referred to as World War I). Every November 11 since, the United States, in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” has celebrated America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of our country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Here at the MVAT Foundation, our goal is to help change the culture in America to show how those who protect our freedoms, here and afar, are supported and recognized for their dedication to service above self. One way we do that is by assisting veterans, service members in transition, military spouses, and Gold Star family survivors with their post-military career success through our Heroes Linked program.
We built Heroes Linked because new veterans have overwhelmingly said that the biggest challenge facing them is navigating the civilian job market and building a family-supporting career. We listened, and we created a program for them. Heroes Linked is a career success national network of volunteer Advisors, as well as a resource directory of continuously updated open positions, veteran-friendly employers, Yellow Ribbon universities, and an extensive listing of other nonprofits and government offices serving veterans.
Today, Heroes Linked is assisting literally thousands of veterans to forge their post service careers so that they can provide for their families. But the need is far greater. Each and every year, approximately 200,000 new veterans join the civilian job market.
They dedicated years and even decades to serving our country, but face a new uphill battle. The battle to forge positive post-service careers without their own professional networks, the networks they could not build while serving in uniform. A strong professional network is the most important factor in career success. And Heroes Linked provides just that, a ready-made network of hundreds of persons just like you. Persons who who built their own careers and now can easily and securely share their knowledge, insights, and advice with those veterans who request it using Heroes Linked.
Join us in celebrating and honoring those veterans who have served the country in war or peace. One way to do that is to create your own Heroes Linked Advisor profile and stand ready to assist them. It costs nothing and takes less than 5 minutes. Please consider doing so.
