Memorial Day 2021

One Minute of Silence

May 31, 2021 is Memorial Day, a federal holiday that many of us will enjoy as a day off from work as part of a long weekend. And weekends are to be enjoyed. This holiday, however, is a day dedicated to honoring those who died in service to our country. So, please do enjoy the day, but be mindful that your freedom to do so was paid for by those who fought to defend our country and, even more so today, by those who gave their lives in doing so.

In their honor, please make a point to observe the National Moment of Remembrance and “go silent” for one minute at 3:00 pm local time tomorrow, May 31. Tell everyone around you about it and ask that they join you in this act of national unity and respect for our fallen.

Whether you will be on a golf course, at a picnic, attending a concert, enjoying a pool party, or a barbecue, the 60 seconds you take to honor their sacrifice is but a moment in the day. But it is an important moment. It will help you remember our defenders’ sacrifices. ‘Freedom is not free’ is more than a slogan; it is a value. And values must be exercised.
