Transforming a Service-Disabled Veteran’s Life in Anaheim
Medal of Honor recipient Will Swenson paints Army veteran Paul Nguyen’s Anaheim home as part of Heroes Linked’s Heroes Home Repair program.
Heroes Linked recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Orange County to repair the exterior of the home of service-disabled Army veteran Paulnhu “Paul” Nguyen in Anaheim, Calif.
The effort, part of the Heroes Home Repair program, began with the selection of Nguyen from a large pool of deserving people. It was “a no-brainer,” said Heroes Linked Board Chair Bob Jerome. “[Paul] defended our country, and his house was falling into disrepair. He doesn’t take what we are doing for granted.”
Three recipients of the Medal of Honor took part in the painting of their fellow veteran’s home. Jack Jacobs and Jim McCloughan received their medals for valorous actions in Vietnam, while Will Swenson, still on active duty in the Army, received his medal for actions in Afghanistan.
“As we cross paths we find similarities and common stories,” Swenson said. “It’s all about us staying part of a team.”
Jacobs serves on the Board of Directors and Swenson on the Board of Advisors.
Also participating that morning were Vice Chairman Pete Seitz, Executive Director James Colbert, and Board Members Corinne Goodman, Tom Rooney, John Ventimiglia, and Larry Schnadig.
