2nd Annual Tennis Tournament a Huge Success, Sells Out

April 28 dawned cloudy and gray. But the gloomy morning could not dampen the enthusiasm of the sold out crowd of tennis players and spectators eager to enjoy a day of fun and competitive tennis to benefit MVAT’s Heroes Linked program—$10,000 was raised! And what a day it was! The full field allowed for a morning round robin and afternoon knock out rounds.

The tournament could not have come off so well without the support of PopGroup LA who donated their services and Kris Jordan, Tennis Director at the MountainGate Country Club. Together, the best MVAT tennis tournament to date came off without a hitch.

Congratulations to our winners—Air Force bracket: Shizuko Takayasu/Roselle Paskus, Army bracket: Randi Haim/Sharona Malekan, Coast Guard bracket: Zach Imerman/Jeff Imerman, Navy bracket: Chris Pope/Jason Collins.

The tournament opening was made memorable by a brief talk by U.S. Coast Guard veteran Janice Bowman, who spoke about the Heroes Linked program and how it has contributed to the growth of her post-service career. The MVAT Foundation wishes to express tremendous gratitude to our lead sponsors: Babolat, Bishop Family Foundation, Divino restaurant, MountainGate Country Club, Pelican Products, PopGroup LA, and Tennis Warehouse.

Soon after the mid-day lunch break, the sun broke through and the by-now very large crowd of spectators was treated to its warming rays as the final matches were played. And what a thrill they provided. Loud cheers could be heard sounding back-and-forth from the viewing areas for the different finals courts.

A big thank you to the MountainGate CC and the board members of its Tennis Activity Fund for the delicious bbq lunch with all the fixings.

Winners with their Pelican Products donated prizes—incredible high-tech rigid and soft-sided coolers.

The day was far from over, however. Post play activities included the presentation of medals to the winning teams and the rafffle drawing featuring some 20 prizes ranging from high-tech coolers courtesy of Pelican Products to gift cards from Tennis Warehouse and Divino restaurant in nearby Brentwood.

Pelican Products provided a sales rep and a display of their consumer products including coolers, phone cases, and insulated travel tumblers.

The awards, tennis services, and gift bags would not have been so special without the incredible contributions from: Anderson Trophy, Herbalife Nutrition, Lululemon, Rx Bars, The Wonderful Company, and Yonex.

Get ready for next year’s MVAT Tennis Tournament taking place on Sunday April 19, 2020!
